Okay, I got some editing software installed. Kino is seeing the camera and getting input from it. So there’s that.

I finally got Ubuntu installed. The LiveCD did not play well with my hard drive at first. A little kerjiggering and unplugging of key components later and I was a proud operator of a linux machine. Yee haw.
